Bur Oak Quercus macrocarpa Pyramidal to oval in youth. Develops a massive trunk and broad crown. Excellent long-lived shade tree. Foliage is dark green and leathery with grayish-white undersides. Leaves turn yellow-green to yellow-brown in the fall. Acorns are around 1" long with a bur-like cap. Excellent park tree. Dark gray to gray-brown bark becomes deeply ridged and furrowed with age. Tolerates most soils, drought tolerant. Withstands wind, extreme cold, pollution and salt. Matures at 60-80'; 70-90'. (zone 3-8) Needs full sunlight. |
