Eastern Redbud Cercis canadensis Small irregular shaped tree with ascending branches and open form. Rosy-pink flowers appear in the spring. Foliage emerges a reddish-purple which turns to green in the summer. Leaves are heart shaped and can get quite large. Fall foliage is yellow-green. Brownish-black pods are 3'' and often persist through winter. Prefers most soils. Matures at 20-30'; 20-30' spread. (zone 4-9) Needs full to partial sunlight. |
