Kentucky Coffeetree Gymnocladus dioicus
Narrow young growth, broadens with age. New foliage is pinkish in the spring, which changes to dark bluish in the summer. One of the last trees to get leaves in the spring. Fragrant white flowers. Tree also has seed pods which are reddish-pink and leathery and about 10". Adapts to alkaline soils, city conditions and is drought tolerant. Matures at 40-50'; 20-25' spread. (zone 3-8) Needs full sunlight.
