ellipsoidalis Tree is pyramidal in youth becoming oval to rounded with age. Very slow growing. Tree thrives in light, sandy, acidic soils, but will tolerate heavier soils, more alkaline conditions, summer heat and salt. Intolerant to flooding conditions. Fuzzy pink new leaves turn to bright green glossy leaves in summer. Fall foliage ranges from orange and red to reddish brown. Tree has acorns which is 1/2-3/4" long covered by a brown cap. Matures at 50-60'; 35-45' spread. (zone 3-7) Needs full sunlight. |
