Prairifire Flowering Crabapple Malus 'Prairifire' 1996 Iowa Tree of the Year. Upright tree matures to a rounded shape. Foliage emerges reddish-maroon in the spring. Leaves then mature to dark green. Red buds open to dark purplish red flowers followed by dark red-purple, persistent fruit which attract birds. Flowers are fragrant. Bark is glossy, dark red-brown. Disease resistant to scab, fire blight, mildew and cedar-apple rust. Matures at 20'; 20' spread. (zone 4-8) Needs full sunlight. |
